‘Tis The Season Of Giving

‘Tis the season of giving. I’m sure you all have heard this before, but I’m not sure you have thought of it this way.

Everyday, I turn on the news and become bewildered and saddened by what is happening in our country and around the world. We have all become so divided. When did this happen? Why did this happen? I don’t know. I don’t have any answers, but I have some suggestions that may help bring us all together again. I don’t care if you are for or against our current president. I don’t care what political party you side with. None of this matters to me. What matters to me is your heart and if you are trying to make the world a better place. Here are a few suggestions of ways to make things better.

I am a firm believer in the saying that God gave you one mouth and two ears for a reason. You are supposed to listen twice as much as you speak. Take time to observe, not judge others because you only know the little part that they choose to show you. I believe if people stopped spreading bad news and hate and started shouting about all of their blessings and good news, we could really make a big and positive change in our world.

Be positive where ever you go. One positive action is like a ripple in a lake. It starts out as a small ripple, but grows the further out it goes.

I also believe that the only time you should look down at someone is when you are helping them back up. What I mean is it is never okay to look down upon another person who needs your help, unless you are extending your hand to help them up. Again, you have no idea what struggles they are going through at the time and no one has the right to judge them. You especially don’t have the right to make them feel like less of a person. If you are in a position to help someone, do it. Just do it. Don’t ask questions or try to figure out how it will benefit you. Just know that by doing a simple act of kindness can be the greatest gift you can give someone that needs it. Kindness and love can make a big difference in a person’s life and a big difference in our world.

Don’t have a lot of time or money? That’s fine. Just smile at random people for no reason. You would be amazed at how far one smile can go! It doesn’t cost anything and can really make someone feel so much better. A word of warning…smiles are contagious. One smile can spread to hundreds in a matter of minutes! 🙂

Not sure how to help? Pray. This is a small and simple act that can have a huge impact on your life and other people’s lives around you. Praying will also be a way to help guide you and show you ways that you can help. Not everyone will tell you what they want or need, but God knows all. If you send up unspoken prayers for someone that you think needs some help, God will answer your prayer and help that person.

Want to help out in a physical way because you aren’t that religious? Give a donation to a reputable charity. A small donation of a few dollars can go a long way to helping others. I donate to many charities through out the year, not just at Christmas time. Did you know that food pantries need food the most during the summer months because most donations are given between November and February? Food pantries help supply lunches for children and needy people when school is out. The people who normally get free or reduced lunches at school, often go without during the summer months. Yes, it’s nice to help during the winter months, but I will guarantee that they will appreciate the help in other months. Don’t want to donate to a food pantry? There are so many other worth charities. All you have to do is Google charities that fit in your interests. I know you will find one….or more.

I believe that if we do some of these things, we will see a positive change in our country and our world. If you can’t find change, be the change. If you don’t see someone doing something positive, then do something to make a positive change in the place you are at. I believe God put us here to be His hands and feet on this earth. I think He wants us to do what is right in His eyes. If you aren’t religious, you can still make a positive change in our world and country by being kind and helping those who need it.

So, instead of spreading hate and ignorance in 2019, why don’t we try to spread love, kindness and understanding? Our world can always use more of these things, so why not be someone to start the ripple of love, kindness and understanding by throwing your kindness pebble into the ocean of hate and ignorance?
